In AM - AZ war I was routing for Armenia but quickly I noticed they plainly lied - lied a LOT and all the time. Loosing side does that.   29. You do not get the war and what it is about. The war is not about land - the war is about ticking checkboxes in Russian goal sheet. So far Russia is doing great and is on a very clear path to victory --- which is achieving all goals of the operation. Take Bahmut for example, Russia forces there are happy to not even enter the city for months - all Ukraine has to do is hold it and suffer huge losses. Take all of Ukraine, Russia does not need to go for some large military offensives - all they need to do is keep fighting and keep the lights off. And just like that they are seeing huge movement towards ultimate victory - millions are leaving Ukraine never to come back, by spring Ukraine may have just over 20m people! And what is that 20m - most of these are retired and elderly. Ukraine as a state is gone.

After the village there is another village and only after that village they are at the defensive line. This is a total disaster for UA as they committed now 90% of their forces. They do not have almost any reserves. They are taking massive casualties for nothing. What big breakout - for Russia you mean? Yes, there is now open talk about the offensive.

  41. The Russian problem is short 6 (or even less) contracts. This is all nice and good for a short war - but not so good for multi year war. Imagine you are Russian from Sibera and you sign up for 6 months. In these 6 months you make more $$$ then at your regular job in 2 years. You enjoy your $, buy a car etc. Why risk another 6 months? Maybe once you run out of $$$ but not immediately.

Even that has worked as Russians are moving every day. Facts on the ground are easy to see on video. We have villages defended by Russian company size units, assaulted by whole UA brigades taking epic level losses. Why is Russia doing poorly? They are doing great! Look at the massive losses they are inflicting on the enemy. For one small village we have over 30 vehicles in the village destroyed. At least double that outside. Ukraine lost more vehicles then houses. Ukraine lost about as many vehicles as there were defenders!

  55. Well, some of it is. But a lot is truthful. I.e. Ukraine admitted itself loosing 1000 per day in Donbass alone. You usually would "lower" your losses so real ones are probably double. With 2000 per day on say all fronts, we have 60000 per month. Which is quite close to what Russians claim.

On the other hand a lot of videos showing UA equipment and their attack or defense show heavy use of trucks and armored cars provided by the west. This suggest that almost all of their Soviet stock was destroyed.

Their conditions for winning are very modest while conditions for Ukraine are total military victory. US command some time ago said they do not see much of a chance of outright UA victory. So no issues. When was last time you saw regular civilian cars have plastic shatter in cold weather? Me neither. My Toyota does not seem to "shatter" at under -30C. Note that -30C and already -40C is a big difference - not to mention arctic service of -60C (coldest rated).

  101.  @daffyduck780  The main purpose of the war from Russian perspective is to force Ukraine not to join NATO and to have US bases etc. on its territory. This task is not yet finished but Russia went to war over this and this alone (despite some territorial shenanigans). When you look at pre-war negotiations you can clearly see that. Sweden and Finland were unofficially part of NATO since early 90s so no change there. They also could have had US bases on their territory since then and did not chose to have any. Situation from Moscow perspective did not change - you can see that Russia is totally not interested / scared / caring about their formal addition to NATO as they are not seen as any threat.

  102. This war is very porous - so some cauldrons can be drained by people simply running away in small groups. We probably only see mass surrender in Severdoneck - as its a city. But the other ones probably not - scared semi fit soldiers can run for 10km plus non stop - or should be able to - and that is well enough to reach friendly lines. But all heavy equipment is lost.

There is LOTS of info online how these troops are used as cannon meat - so Russian claim of grinding them down seem legit. I still think sacrificing these pp for PR - as Ukraine has been doing is stupid - you are not going to get them back & numbers of foreign volunteers are dropping quickly. No one exactly wants to go and be fed to the artillery.

  111. It is very hard to say what is going on. Ukraine made some very modest gains at apparently heavy losses. What will Russia do? They need to finally use some of that air power and some of these helicopters to reduce Ukrainians. If UA is indeed pulling out all reserves from all over the place - now is the time to strike back.

  112.  @Kanawanu  You over estimate, say 150 are killed and 450 are wounded, at most, per day in whole Bakhmut front line. This is huge loss for Ukraine - most wounded do not come back to the fight - these are not wounded with paper cut - these are some serious cases. So Ukraine is loosing 150+250 per day -- 400 troops in just one front line. Over 100 days that works out to 40k troops. That is shit load of people. Over course of a year we are talking 160k (!) This is why I said if this goes on for 4 or 5 years even with recruitment of women, children and elderly Ukraine is toast on military level. Of course the fact that everyone except the elderly left the country now is not lost on Russians...

  138. Hmm, I am unsure about mobilization - especially open one - its a very risky move politically. It would not be some "magical" wand - troops would need time to be assembled, moved to the front etc. It would take at least a month I think to see actual results of such move. So by August we would see say extra 100 BTGs. Maybe more immediate result of a declaration of war would be use of BTGs with conscripts that already exist. Again, very shaky stuff.

  142. F16s will not be used for air defense as they have limited time in the air and have to land. This is why you need static air defenses VS. Missiles. Also too few F16s. They can try to intercept some cruise missiles but other types not possible. Small drones are to cheap to engage with a fighter.

Do not exceed WWII numbers please ;) 300k is a lot as many are not as experienced as first batch of 300k Russia called in and it took months to integrate everyone other than these that just left active combat (around 70k). So another 300k will take at least as long as previous 300k - given previous 300k had 70k component that just finished contract in Ukraine & did not need much retraining. So it was more like 230k. Also do not value so much the "old" training pp got - it is more or less of little use - army runs on conformity - i.e. some of the guys in their 30s will be fit and able + remember how to use a rifle etc. some will be fat and drunk. You need to make them into one cohesive mass without assumptions - so all need to go get retrained. In addition you need something other than say "light infantry". Tankers. Artillerymen. These will need more detailed refreshing of skills. Say for your tank core, you will have T72 commanders that worked in a training center 10 years ago for few years. These guys would be OK with little refresher - but you also have guys that only occasionally were in T72 - once in a while - these need almost total training. Easiest is to put them through lots of training to make sure they are on the same level.

If the war lasts another 10 months I do not doubt Russia will use another 5000 missiles if there are targets for them.

Then UK sent their PM and convinced Ukraine that economic sanctions and western help will enable Ukraine to take back Crimea. Ukraine leadership made a mistake and ended negotiations with Russia. Russia was prepared for such turn of events - and switched to "long war" plan. Traffic jams were part of psych op - nothing related to logistics. After all they had no traffic jams for weeks to move out - and managed to do so multiple times in under 24h. Which also points out to low number of troops involved. BTGs failed mostly b/c it is too small unit to have proper support all over the place. In Ukraine even brigade structure failed - and Russia went all they way to division.

Also the relative ease with which Russians move shows that the front is collapsing and if political boots do not see this they will loose the whole grouping of troops in Donbas salient, not just one or two brigades, but all troops to the east of Bahmut. We may also see sudden snowball where the front rapidly moves even more towards west. Similar to German collapse during operation Bargation.

Thus taking out bridges from Crimea is nice distraction of Russian logistics but one has to remember Ukraine would need to cross Dniper river itself - how do you do this - paratroopers? Even if how would you build a bridge to support them? Its not like Russians do not have means to take out a pontoon bridge. Even if Ukraine were to move onto Crimea Russia would simply do another 300k mobilization and retook any land lost.

Growth is more then double digit. Chinese imports from Russia were so great they were #1 supplier of oil for China surpassing Saudi Arabia. You do know, Russia produced about 5% more oil after start of the war then before the war. Yeah... more. So much for sanctions. I also fact checked your trading partners BS - out of top 10 trading partners only 5 sanctioned Russia. Out of top 30, 10 did not sanction. You do not understand simple economics of value added product. A poor country such as Ukraine may be important if it is a very large producer of basic commodity. Even poor countries in Africa may be very important - if what they produce is then heavily value added on. Reliance on simply looking at dollars got these idiots in EU into recession.

  305.  @anglet64  First of all I did look up trading partners - you did not. 2nd of all type of export counts - Russian export is raw resources so they are not married to EU - the can sell elsewhere. 3rd of all Russian economy is doing fine - even according to world bank. 4th of all unemployment in Russia is low compared to the west - their manufacturing is up by double digits. 5th of all many business that west closed are reopened again - with huge loss to western companies and big gain to Asia - some of these were bought for less then 10% of their value, some for like 1% - essentially free. So don't expect that these are just "gone". Russian exports and revenue are UP - even the west says they are up. Their production is up in oil compared to 2021, the oil price on average is much higher so they made a lot of $$$ extra. I do not fudge the numbers, you just need to cope with the fact that sanctions failed.

Why Russia would be short of computers and phones - the country that makes these did not sanction Russia. They have zero issues. For a total of almost 10m. This would mean Ukraine will have less than 25m people by spring 2023. Effect of the war is certainly felt in Russia - but it is far and wide less than in Ukraine.

Ukraine was invaded b/c (same as with Cuba but no step back this time) they declared their only goal in life - as per constitution - was to join NATO. I.e. the war is exactly opposite to what you say - the main goal is stopping NATO expansion. I guess everyone is an idiot and they started the war when they did not have to ;) Also Russia wins the war if Ukraine does not join NATO - which now seems like not too far from total victory. Look at negotiations before the war for a clear hint WHY there is a war. Did Russia ask for land? NO. They asked for security guarantees. Did they get them? No.

  377.  @Baffuteagle  Actually smallest point is 800m and after that there are two smaller rivers in many places - basically marshy islands. In the north its more like over 10km wide lake. I.e. attacking here is almost as bad as crossing English channel. Even if your light infantry crosses and sacrifices itself then what? Your armor crosses and now, with poor logistics you think you can push enemy back when last year Ukraine could not push Russia out despite situation that was almost totally reversed? Someone in Moscow would need to do an epic mistake for this to work.

  378. The whole jet issue is actually very strange. First of all why MiG 31??!! 2nd why Fighter Bomber did not confirm but just sound angry. We only have a picture as confirmation. This is all very suspecious. We can only be sure of strikes as these are on video.
