  1. Well, the Germans certainly had very low opinion of the Dutch defenders if they thought they can finish them off in just 1 day with airborne attack. On the other hand Dutch army did show their inability to destroy these German units despite heavy numerical superiority. So maybe Germans were a bit justified there. Yet on another hand Germans did suffer crippling - huge aircraft losses in the transport fleet - almost 200 aircraft were destroyed or heavily damaged for various reason - Germany could not afford such heavy aircraft losses - especially in large aircraft. Overall all of this did help Germany build their airborne doctrine but at a huge cost.

  2. I think allies had the same hubris Germans had - note everyone learned that airborne is nice and cool but larger operations would bankrupt the nation, at least in the classical sense. I think paratroopers today are more of an elite quick reaction force then one that is expected to jump out by the 1000s.

  3. Better question would be to ask that of the Danes - but maybe not to their faces - they are ashamed of the one day defense.
