  1. The movie does not follow what SV did to these transferred at least at first, which is to torture and kill. NV tortured and threaten to kill US POWs - under that pressure US was forced to get SV to stop killing / torturing people. This resulted in much better conditions for US troops.

  3. Main difference today would be in use of less specialized machinery. Notice a lot of machines are set for just one operation or even made to just one set of very similar operations. You cannot easily produce say 4" shell and certainly it would be impossible or next to impossible to move production to say engines. Modern CNC machines are more versatile - you can move production quickly to different things. Also each machine can do more operations and you can load two machines or more with a robot - thus decreasing your human worker need by large factor. The gages used are same ones as today for inspection through we can also use laser based stuff speeding things up - on the other hand CNCs are more precise - so far less need for constant inspection. Anyone notice set screw at the end was not a hex but a flat screwdriver? You can tell by that detail it is WWII vintage.
