Ah Germans and their innovative methods of torture. We could remove screws (bolts) from today's life but it would make a lot of items expensive or not as well functional. We can do precise motion without the need of a screw (think printer - no screw for head motion) & we can measure precisely without screws (electronic micrometer is as precise or more then manual screw based)

Kopernik was taken seriously - he just had backing of the church as he was a member of the church. This backing died out however, few decades later. Church claims that the theory Kopernik proposed was not fully proven - but that is strange way to look at it given it is clear from the text it is rather extensively proven - it feels that "not taken seriously" is just a cover for why it took over 70 years for someone to put it on index of forbidden books.
