#1 violator to any rights is Tesla - you need to sign a document called Terms of Use and Tesla will turn it off for any violations. If it detects you tried to fix it yourself === off.

Tesla seems to fly off the shelves - people are more then willing to sacrifice freedom for convenience. In EU they have new laws added all the time to stop Tesla from cutting into people's rights.

@darthvader5300 They should make condition of sale following of standards and following of right to repair. Otherwise no sales and prevent people from registering these vehicles in the state.

Not just John Deere - all other major makes - and in consumer market #1 offender is Tesla.

@darthvader5300 Actually today we can repair WAY better and faster if allowed. I can use 3d printers to print parts quickly at home - it would be nice if schematics were provided. There is explosion in small CNCs that make producing steel parts easy. Heck today I have a home shop that people would envy me in 1960s as it would be worth at least 3x what average house cost. Its all today. BUT companies today, knowing the power of people are actively working to prevent its use.

Lobbying from Apple and Tesla - not just tractors - its that farmers are the first ones to feel it and get a burn. A $1000 phone is inconvenient, a 300,000 to 500,000 tractor is a big problem.

Apple is one thing, at least it is "cheap". Try Tesla. No longer just a phone.

Just so everyone understands - what big tractor companies are doing to farmers is identical to what Tesla is doing. You want a part? Beg. And then beg us to install it for you for lots of $$$... or we no longer will support you - you now own an ornament called Deer tractor or Tesla.

Jake Songster Apple is by far not in almost every home (even in US) as its market share is kind of low. Also Apple products are not as important to people as a car or a tractor. Most people get rid of their Apple on their own after few years of use - there are very few people that keep a cell phone > 5 years. Most laptops are also discarded before roughly 6 year mark. This is not the case for cars and tractors. Average car lifespan is 12 years - that is average. 10% make it far longer, maybe closer to 15 or 18 years. Maybe 5% of phones make it past 6 years. By comparison average phone lifespan is just 2.5 years (vs 12!!!) and laptop is 4 years.

Jake Songster Sure it has 100x the market share but that 100x market share is in non-possibly critical items. Your phone not working is an nuisance that can be quickly fixed with a visit to local store. A broken non usable car or tractor is a big deal. Its not a "disposable" item for most people - even kind of more wealthy ones.

Jake Songster Today, yes, sure - but if Tesla is now worth roughly as much as all auto makers put together and actually delivers even fraction of expectations imagine Tesla model "1" that is a cheap Tesla in say 10% of all homes - not rich but regular people that bought it instead of a Ford. Now imagine impact if Elon turns off support.

@meyatetana2973 Non Tesla electric cars may be easy. In a Tesla car if you change a component the car will inform you of it an refuse to start. For your safety. Heck soon even Tesla components not from the same car will be a problem or already are. As for non electronic components it takes a bit of work to make your own door panel from scratch - same as restoring very old vehicles its not easy nor cheap vs. simply going to say Ford and ordering one.

@777dragonborn Tesla is expensive and shitty & next to impossible to repair outside of Tesla authorized provider unless you hack it or make your own (depending on part).

@JoshJos-Shwa Maybe there is a reason Cincinnati glory days ended with manual machines for which a new gear costs not over $1000 for a small spur and for a bigger gear more then the machine. They also AFAIK only made "basic" CNC machines with hydraulic actuators. The company changed hands so many times since 1970s it is hard to figure out where the "original" US version is at. Its similar to South Bend that is now owned by Grizzly - the name may sound familiar and American but the actual company is just a shell. There are services of knowledgeable people that can fix a board for you - but they usually need schematics and that is what companies block - before no problem - everything came with a schematic - now its "secret".
