  2.  @Ben-ek1fz  We probably will know what exactly were some of these movements by the Russians after the war ends - maybe, or maybe in a very long time. "Mykolayiv bypass was also a major blunder. " - what do you suggest they do - a) nothing b) try to take a city of size of Mariupol with probably less troops then the # defending b) has not much chance of any success a) will not test the enemy. So they correctly did c) try to bypass and see whatever its possible. They did capture a village and a bridge, but their force was too weak to go any further, so they retreated and Ukrainians blown up the bridge. We also do not know Russian objectives - it seems everyone adds more despite stated objective of Russia. Heck, some in the west even claim Putin wanted all of Ukraine. Thus judging Russia on "failed" objectives without knowing these objectives is imho not right.

  15. Well, so far operation is going slowly but according to plan. Just timelines seem off. I think Russians under estimated fortifications in Donbass. Like every house is a fortress and all basements are connected. They need to clear every house. Also weather is not great, rivers a flooding, Ukrainians blow up bridges etc. So going is slow.

  34.  @williamlanger9229  The actual economic hit is rather small - looking at say military spending it did not have a decisive impact nor did it have a big impact on GDP. Of much, much greater impact is low price of oil - well, maybe not today but historically. You can see how much "low oil" costs Russia. When looking at a GDP graph of pre 2014 and post and ignoring oil one cannot see any sanction effect... mostly as GDP is actually growing a bit faster. It is very, very hard to figure out what sanctions actually do, what effect on policy that have, if any, and whatever anyone in Russia actually considers doing "something" the west wants - as no one in the west even knows what this "something" is. I.e. sanctions are like a disease that Russia got used to and is chronic.

  36. Problem is Russia has huge reserves so they can cut off any Ukrainian units and destroy them. Ukraine lost there war - they are now in desperation mode. If they want the war to last longer they should only defend.

  37.  @rexsceleratorum1632  Yes, Ukraine has very few well trained troops - most are conscripts. Russia has mobiks which are far and wide better than conscripts. I said after just 3 months Ukraine lost the war. Reason is they refused to negotiate. Soviets won the war with Finland - go check it out. All Soviet demands were met. The goal never was to occupy all of Ukraine - what for? To deal with Banderites, no thanks. No one is that stupid. At most regime change. The Nazi are mostly from western Ukraine - and yes, in Kiev. Placing a Jew in "charge" does not exactly de-Nazify them. Most if not all Russian Nazi are in Ukraine fighting for Kiev regime. Russia was indeed de-nazified - which is a good thing.

  39. Not really - I say not at all - its the west that tries to paint such strange picture of Putin. When there were protests in last 10 years in the east Putin was always super reluctant to do anything about it and frequently refused to send any police help. He could have easily rebuild that part of Soviet Union yet he never even moved a finger to do so.

  41.    Well, they have this video - at least one Ukrainian helicopter with crew got wasted. Most of the drones taken out fell into the sea. Same with aircraft.

  42.    Oh, its simple - they landed on the far side of the island, nowhere close to the helipad, they formed defensive perimeter and helicopter did not even have its engine off - it was an assault. Why would Russians assault their own island? Besides - we know Ukrainians at least thought Russians are there as there is another video of Ukrainian jets bombing the Island - also filmed by TB2.   43. Russian troops are better trained and have well though off defenses plus they control the air. They also have huge advantage in fire power (artillery). Number of troops is roughly 1:1. So using Falklands it would be 600 British soldiers defending against 600 attacking Argentinian soldiers with British having a BB for fire support and an aircraft carrier.

  49. Nope. Armies that have more fire power loose far less. Its about firepower. WWI is artillery battle. Here Russia has at least 5x advantage. Thus even on offense Russia looses 2x less than Ukraine.
