Comments by "" (@tomk3732) on "Russian invasion of Ukraine [1 April 2022] \"Ukrainian counter-offensive\"" video.
But they did not do any counter offensive. Russians were gone from say Hostomel before Ukrainians arrived. Russians in fact even gave up Ivankov as they moved behind it. So there was no counter offensive at all - Russians withdrawn troops. Same on Mikolayev front - it is doubtful there are any Russians left on the north side of the river. I am not even sure the bridges will be kept for much longer - I assume they will be blown up in the next few days and Russians will be fully across the river. Other fronts also are seeing a large Russian withdrawal. Russians are moving new fresh units north of Mariupol and to Donbass.

It looks like Russians withdrawn forces on the left hand side of Kiev all they way past Ivankov. Overnight. They are also removing other troops in multiple locations. I assume these will regroup and attack somewhere in Donbass.
6
Nah, I suspect large offensive in the coming days, maybe a week. 2nd throw of that offensive will be troops that retreated from Kiev front.
6
Nah, Russians are slowly rolling them in Donbass. Just opportunistic taking / surrounding of Kiev failed and Russians will concentrate now on Donbass. It is difficult to say what Russian plans are at this stage.
6
@nayname Oh I am sure they do. This operation was run with such small number of troops they easily have 3x as many. Problem is quality of these extra troops.
4
Its much more - Russians moved back at least 50km.

Doğu Türkistan Mapping Turkey and .... Serbia? I guess anything is possible now.
3
meaningless now - when they cannot encircle these cities or do similar.
2
Why, he approved the withdrawal of troops.

@Костя2-к9к I doubt it. Z did not want to go back to Minsk. Also Z did not want to remove NATO. What did Z exactly negotiate?
2
@Debre. Well, I guess you are right - he could be angry they did not fulfill their objective - we never know how "hard" was that objective - i.e. was it "opportunistic" or "mandatory".
1
@Debre. Nah I doubt they fail, they hold almost 100% of Lugansk, and like 55% of Donetsk. They are moving forward every day. Even if the war froze today, without whole Kiev, Chernihow etc. Russians would hold about 1/6 of Ukraine.
1
Mariupol is like 90% taken. Probably announced by Monday or Tuesday. Yes, Kiev encirclement or rapid takeover government failed. So Russians are moving these troops to a different front.
1
@mattc9598 It could as well been - it was certainly opportunistic - if they could encircle kiev, why not? But they failed. After a month nothing was accomplished other then fighting on fixed positions.
1
@lunthang7453 It could not... they would need at least 5x as many troops if not more.
1
Russians are even gone from Ivankov, 50km to the north of Hostomel. By tomorrow or day after they will fully cross the border.

But what would be long term military victory? Forces deployed by Russia were never enough to even occupy Ukraine. They were not really enough to even fight and occupy half of Ukraine. Maybe it was just opportunistic to take Zielinski out and Kiev, but that failed. Certainly Russia could mobilize and crush Ukraine at heavy cost - but what is the goal? Russia never planned to annex say Kiev - I think. Problem here is goal and what is the minimal goal. No Ukraine in NATO and Donbass++ in Russian hands seems like a minimal goal of the operation. We just don't know about the ++ part.
