What stalemate, they are encircling (they cut the road already, about 17,000 Ukrainian troops in Donbass. It will take many weeks to get such large number of troops to be liquidated or surrender.

@moist_ointment I hope you are not looking at history too much - may I remind you of things such as: - WWI - WWII - Vietnam - Korean war In all of above it was stalemate - heck, by WWI standards Russia is moving lighting fast. Russia has not lost any territory in Donbass for over two weeks, maybe 3. So they are moving forward only. Again, no one had such fast movement in say WWI. This is amazing by later Korean War. It is roughly as fast as WWII - say middle of 1944, Ukraine is Germany and Russia is Soviet Union. I think pp forgot how long wars take - God, you forgot about 20 years in Afghanistan already? Or maybe Vietnam, I guess US threw all it got and only got small movement out of it, loosing in the end. Come on, think a bit. Or more modern US, it took them like 6 weeks to take Falujah with 10x the numbers against some poorly armed and not trained insurgents. Guess US is weaker then Russia.

@moist_ointment LOL, no. Speed may mean more losses. Russians did fastest advance in any campaign, but they took losses. Now they slowed down to a crawl - but so did the losses! So fast offensive === huge losses, but what if you want to take land and take minimal losses? Come on.
