The fight would finish in few hundred years with fall of Rome. I doubt that these were great victories - after all Rome moved back behind Rhine river and never crossed it again. Why? There is only a lot of excuses but the most plausible is that simply Germans were too hard to conquer. Fast forward and it was German tribes that conquered Rome.
