The last part was funny and true.. however, as a 30+ year consumer of US television, I recall consistent though small parts for minorities, of a positive depiction, often a single dimensional character, ie, scientist who would "deliver the test results" for a few lines, well educated presentation. Commercials, TV, and movies did this often as if trying to role model. Yet math and science themselves are now under attack, and until both are respected, and rewarded well, the whole community will not achieve as it once did. Persian culture had a similar experience when an Imam said that math was the devil's business, and suddenly the tradition of learning lost ground. Tangent.. another point should be made here.. When China is a target audience for Hollywood, you will see less minorities, and the question of why should loom larger than any of those posed in this story, as their treatment of minorities finally gets some coverage.
