Much of this seems to be Madeleine Albright and Bill Clinton's fault. Both of whom became tremendously wealthy from China related business soon after. Short term gains for long term pains is a very selfish sort of approach, imperiling all that their forebears fought for, and what these two claimed to champion (environment and human rights, in their case).
