Boeing's failure last week for similar reasons.. 5 billion dollars wasted on a method to get humans to ISS etc, twice failed, loss of face, confidence in the dollar drops.. because government contracts no longer use merit and no consequences for failure, instead box ticking jobs programs that will allow a people's liberation army foot on Mars ahead of one from the free world (how did that affect Soviet future when losing space race?). And how will failure to achieve that goal affect ability to redirect an asteroid ? Would the dinosaurs have invested in a space program had they they been told, "yes, it happens occasionally"?
