I hope you are proven wrong. Maybe this time is different. Democracy may be a game-changer. Democracy, with the full suite of supporting institutions like an independent judiciary, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, etc., may allow real friendship to develop between nations. Before democracy, we didn’t get mutually demilitarized borders. Today, the advanced democracies enjoy many thousands of mile of mutually demilitarized borders. We will see how strong the bonds of friendship between nations have become.
