  2. Geography. The oil comes from nearby, and that’s the best port location in the area. Long pipelines are not viable because of mountains and fractious minorities.

  5. Could be the opposite. That would trigger the splintering off of the US energy market from the rest of the world. Cheap energy in the US, expensive everywhere else. The US would suffer from supply chain disruption, but the US would benefit from those disrupted supply chains relocating to the US. My guess is that Kharg is off the table until after the US election. But it will definitely be on the table afterwards.
