Zeihan judges Obama to be highly intelligent, because at the end of his Presidency, Obama gave a series of long form interviews that demonstrated that he sees the world the same way that Zeihan does. Obama will be remembered for the success that is Obamacare and for his adequate response to the 2008 financial crisis. Overall, that makes his Presidency reasonably successful. Zeihan undoubtedly wishes that Obama had used his understanding to accomplish more in international relations, but personally, I’m not convinced that Obama left any significant potential gains on the table. The world simply wasn’t ready to move until the authoritarians began upping their aggression which didn’t start in earnest until the very end of Obama’s tenure.
