Boats beat trains. In general, by a factor of between 8x and 20x. Trains across Siberia? Boats probably win by closer to 1000x.

No, they’re becoming a much POORER version of North Korea. North Korea is also going to become a much poorer version of North Korea in the process. Aid from the PRC and Russia is a major part of North Korea’s current economy. That’s going to dry up. And the PRC is too big— no one is going to have anywhere close to the capacity necessary to prop up them up, so no one is even going to try. There will probably be pieces that break off and ask for help as independent entities. Those will be considered on a case by case basis.

Not in volume. And for the small volume it can get, not at anywhere close to a competitive price. In general: Boats > trains. In specific: Boats >>> trains across Siberia.

The US is currently paying a NEGATIVE real interest rate on its debt. You give me $100 today, I give you $98 in a year, and we call it even. I bet I can keep that up a lot longer than you can.

Remember when the USSR tried this with West Berlin? This would turn out much the same way. Remember, Japan and the Philippines have islands that are quite close to Taiwan. Taiwan’s allies will run the blockade. The PRC will be the one facing the dilemma— do they start shooting at the unarmed cargo ships and planes on a humanitarian mission of mercy? Even worse for China is the counter blockade / sanctions that will gut the PRC. Isn’t Taiwan self sufficient in rice? They obviously import a lot of meat as well as corn and soy to produce their own livestock, but self sufficiency in rice and water means that no one would really suffer on that front.

@fateofthefate “Supplied indefinitely” is overkill. Only need to be able to outlast the other side. “Indefinitely” was the measure for West Berlin, because the USSR was self sufficient in food, energy, fertilizers, metal ores, etc. China does not have that luxury. This is why the counter sanctions / blockade are important. A blockade will also give Taiwan’s allies time to pre-deploy forces around the region.

A. Russia has had thousands of nukes pointed at the US for decades. B. Russia publicly swore “unlimited partnership” with the US’s enemy, the PRC. Lots of minor stuff that the US would shrug off without even noticing if (A) and (B) weren’t present.
