My ADHD makes it hard to judge the severity of emotions of others and my own emotional response to situations xx

Hearing that beautiful violin playing and that beautiful scenery along the canal makes me think of the Lark Ascending by Ralph Vaughan Williams which is so beautiful, paints pictures of the old ways of the country, long summer evenings of youth, a romance, walking through woodland shade with your love, holding her hand the dappled warm red light of midsummer evening and all the beauty of wild flowers and the smell of earth and wild herbs 🌿… ❤

Ahh lovely Zephyr if only we had as much energy to give them what they want 😅 beautiful little lady that she is ❤ I was giving my sons doggie, Hugo a cuddle in Sunday after chasing him around the garden and my wife said, ‘that’s nice you are enjoying doggy time’ and it’s the first time I have ever thought just how healing my time with Hugo was. I have been going down on a depressive cycle after about 5 weeks fairly well (have just been diagnosed with bipolar type 2 comorbid with ADHD) but I’m coping as best as I can but just wanted to share how nice it was to have that doggie time. Such beautiful views of amazing insects and bugs … I just often try to think about whatever it is, which is the creative and loving force behind Mother Nature. Take good care of yourselves and love to you all xx❤

So the canal speed limit doesn’t apply, but you were being responsible unlike that boat that looks like they were going a bit too fast even if the CRT a rules didn’t apply, they were causing a wash which I think would be not a good idea.   30. Vanessa, I was thinking when you mentioned the ladybird, my thoughts went to bees 🐝 and you might maybe like this video (I hope it is ok to share a YouTube link here?). It’s a musical tale sharing the folklore that believes if you tell the beehive colony when the owner of the hives dies or a new heir is born, then the colony will go on. If you don’t then the queen will either leave or die and the colony will die. The band is an amazing band, I have met them all and find them so inspiring, lovely and kind. Spiders are strange creatures, one ran out from under a rock in the garden once… but managed to check myself and thought this is crazy so I focused my concentration and touched the spider and then eventually managed to catch it in my hands …quite tricky but I think I started to concur my fear. Can’t always pick them up but I can try.

Beautiful decoration Vanessa, I love the Daisy and how amazing is your butterfly 🦋 ❤ … I have enrolled myself onto a couple of painting with acrylics a contre-jour and painting skies and reflections by a wonderful artist Carol Baker who has her studio near me in Shropshire. It was down to you that partly inspired me to do this after seeing all of your beautiful painting. 15:38 Edward Elgar … another wonderful composer … https://youtu.be/hKgUxqXoc9M here is Lux Aeterna (Nimrod from the variations). It is performed by Voces8, I may have seen them at one point in the past. What is beautiful is the control of the voices throughout but at the diminuendo (not sure if that is the correct name) section at the end, the lady who sings the main part is so talented. Very much worth a watch if you get a signal that is. So glad you were able to deliver your lessons successfully.   43. So many use the word “mindful” but yet they don’t always seem to really understand it. However, whilst watching your videos, it is clear that you truly understand the concept … I find that I can just get lost with the music and enjoy the scenes. It leaves me feeling relaxed as I focus now, here, on my comment. How wonderful is that poem, “The Star of the day”, the rhyme is present and the meaning is crystal clear, short but full of much to think about. Oh how wonderful to be able to create such a beautiful piece. Isn’t that boathouse amazing? Once whilst on holiday near Dartmouth, we hired a little motor boat and cruised up the River Dart towards Stoke Gabriel and there were so many pretty little boat houses along the banks. Thank you once again for such a wonderfully relaxing experience, my sincere warmest and richest blessings and kindness to you and Mr M xx

  46. Ahh how sad with regards to the 2 boys. How awful for parents to lose their children, I can not imagine the grief. I worry sometimes about my 4 little grandchildren, it’s frightening and I try to shut it out but you can’t live like that and I know I have to be grateful for every moment I spend with them. Cycling to work this morning, I cycle past my sons house and this morning I saw my lovely daughter in law taking Mollie and Annie to school. Mollie is nearly 5 and Annie is 2. Such beautiful little smiles they gave me and that made my day. Have a wonderful week Vanessa, you are such a beautiful creation ❤

  47. 19:29 Wow brilliant Vanessa, lovely seeing your face light up ❤ reminded me that years ago I fancied having a go at designing a bat converter but never got around to it… I have some special transducers laying up in my component racks waiting to be used. if anyone is interested, because bats produce very high frequency sounds that are way above the unman hearing range. Young people can hear up to around 20, 000 cycles per second or in more modern terms 20,000 Hertz (20kHz). Bat communications as Vanessa here mentioned, the frequencies are up to 80 kilo Hertz. By mixing the detected bat sounds received by the transducer which is a form of high frequency microphone, by another frequency close to the bat sound frequency we can hear the difference as long as that difference is less than 20kHz… It’s very similar how a traditional radio receiver works. sorry got my anorak head on there . 😂😂😂😂😂

  54.  @themindfulnarrowboat  when I was a little boy I used to love Enid Blyton famous 5 and I always remember from the first book, how George didn’t like to share things and one day she realised that sharing doesn’t divide the joy of something special, it actually doubles it. I feel like that when you share something nice like a compliment and they appreciate that it’s actually the “fellowship” or the bond that forms or heals a relationship and there is that wonderful feeling of community. Thank you once again to you and Mr M for taking the trouble to share the beautiful things. Seeing your work is making a difference to me and I’m actually thinking more about poetry and when my garden workshop is finished that I am building seriously thinking about getting out my watercolours and perhaps having a go again. Anyway you and Mr M have a really wonderful week, hope the sun shines but you can keep cool too…. Ooh just a thought… you were saying about when you were moored in a shady spot then the down side was that you couldn’t get solar? Well why not buy a few metres cable ramp, some heavy current cable and make an extension to allow you to position your solar panels temporarily somewhere say on the bank that maybe in sunlight and the cable ramp will protect the cables when walkers cyclists or even horsies walk over it ? Anyway just an idea I’m sure you have thought about it… and you both take very much care and blessings to you 😊😊😊😊x

  61. 16:18 Takes me back to the early 80s when I was a young airman with my big kitbag going over that railway bridge as I took the train from Liverpool Lime street bound for Euston. That bridge with the steel cross girders used to dapple the light as we went over. Just before on the Liverpool side and the opposite side from here, there used to be Fisons Fertilisers and it used to stink! As we went over the further bridges like the “Weaver Navigation” bridge which I remember you navigating a few episodes back. Nice seeing familiar places from a different perspective. ❤

  77. It’s so lovely the way you flick through your poetry and illustrations with the gentle music in the background. It reminds me of a TV series in the early 80s called the Diary’s of an Edwardian lady I think it was called? The lady would paint in watercolours and I seem to recall there was some poetry and beautiful music too. What a wonderful life it must be living on a canal boat, I suppose it’s hard at times. I have a couple of friends who both have narrow boats with their partners. The are moored somewhere around Nantwich area they keep telling me to do it, I do t think I could give up my house and being close to 2 of my grandchildren. But good for you xxx

It’s good that you can take a break every once in a while and recharge your batteries, it must be quite intensive having to film and edit your videos and maintain your teaching commitments as well as your day to day things. I’m a little scared of the job in some ways as it’s a more mentor senior role but absolutely dependant upon my engineering experience and previous tech training experience so hopefully it’s more a case of learning the ropes. I will be subscribing again soon because I do want to support folk like yourself who are doing such a great job bringing a little light and goodness into this dark world. I love your love of nature, the knowledge you have about so many animals and insects and your beautiful Zeph. Ahh beautiful damson fly… it’s lovely how you care for such small things … I remember putting a bumble bee that had got into the house and became exhausted onto a little piece of cardboard that I moistened with some drips of water and mixed in some sugar grains. I was so pleased to see her unroll her proboscis and she must have drank the sweetened water and after a little while she buzzed off and carried on her nectar gathering. I LOVE ❤️ nature x

Sounds like you have had a great adventure … really well done at crossing the Manchester Ship Canal, that’s some feat with all that wind blowing, I guess you needed to give it lots of welly on the throttle and lots of rudder? Zeph is so cute I love seeing her tail wag, she’s such a happy little doggy xx That ship, what an amazing restoration. You know what makes me sad is I’m from the Wirral and I remember one of the Mersey Ferries called the Royal Iris and she has been languishing rotting down somewhere on the Thames, bought by some mean horrible person who refuses to sell it back to groups that wanted to restore it. Almost like he has a grudge and instead it’s just slowly rotting away. It has a hole in it so when the tide comes in it just fills up and stays submerged, so very sad. Wow fascinating regards the fuel bunkers… a few of the sites have been visited by YT channels IKS explorer and Tom Scott very interesting to watch … seeing you going up to the Castle reminds me when myself and a few other naughty boys from Pensby Secondary School on the Wirral near Heswall. We had a school boat and we had a day out from Chester to Beeston and we wanted to see how deep the well was in the castle so we lit a load of hay and cardboard and dropped it down through the grating it lit the well shaft up for quite some way… seem to remember there is a bit of a dog leg in the well shaft …

It was interesting seeing the old railway, I have passed under that railway bridge and a few others and knew here was an old line but didn’t know about Tottenham station.   106. 16:35 we have what is known as the Butter Cross in Newport Shropshire, Market Drayton has one too and they were smashed during Cromwell era and the cross part was never restored, just a broken upright. When I was working up in Yorkshire I was staying in Beadale and I noted how similar the market town there was to Newports and they had a similar stone cross which was destroyed. Nasty bunch those puritans 😂xx Fascinating how the crosses were decorated with paint I never knew that xx

  111. Ahh I’ve passed that roundhouse many times if st where I think, is it where the canal goes under the A5? There is an old pub near there (sadly now closed) that is supposed to be super haunted. Hopefully it shouldn’t be too serious as long as the engine doesn’t overheat as that can cause the cylinder head gasket to blow … not a major job if it does go but it’s money you don’t need to have to part company with. Hope everything gets sorted out really quickly for you xx

Talking about the Elephant Hawk moth caterpillar, I think I found one in my garden and like in your picture, the “eyes” provided to frighten off any would be predators. I think it’s the second one I have seen and am I right in saying that they have what looks like a horn? I think I can see a smaller one on the one in your video. Are they a sting?

  122.  @themindfulnarrowboat  thank you Vanessa, to be honest I don’t know the first thing about poetry, I wish I had someone to teach me about it. Mostly I don’t understand it but occasionally I get a little breakthrough. I do enjoy your poems though as they are composed as to what I believe a poem should be, in that there is rhyme and rhythm … some more modern poetry, I don’t understand but it’s not for me to be critical. The Lark, is a very special piece as it paints such beautiful pictures in my mind, I believe music should take us to somewhere that we desire that place that can’t be described in words, like some sort of middle earth where life is safe and special and meaningful xx

  123. It’s funny you mentioning Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath I was going to start to listen to the unabridged diaries of Sylvia Plath on Audible but my subscription is suspended. I first heard the story of them on Radio 4 Extra in a documentary a few months back. Very sad what seemed to be total obsession by Sylvia and control by Ted… Other than that loved seeing Zeph she is just so cute I’d love to say hello if you are ever in the vicinity of Norbury Junction on the Shropshire Union. Chester was my favourite City when I was a boy growing up on the Wirral (Pensby next to Heswall) although Liverpool is very close to my heart too. My mum and dad used to take us to Chester and we used to love the cruise boats and the lovely summer evenings strolling along by the footbridge seeing brass bands playing on the bandstand. Further up towards the weir, artists used to display their paintings on the ledges of the sandstone wall sides of the river. Lots of nice memories. I hope that you are doing ok after your sad loss, you are such a lovely person, you always are kind and polite to people. Hope you have a safe week especially if your entering the Manchester Ship Canal take care ❤❤xx

  134. Goodness I didn’t realise that new boat prices had shot up… I guess that’s because people are choosing to live in them as opposed to owning a house. So our greedy economy comes to the rescue once again… makes me so cross how the governments have allowed investors to Jack up house prices …. My son is a Squadron Leader engineering officer in the RAF and he just can’t get in the property ladder despite trying his hardest to save for a deposit it’s just ridiculous now … peoples homes should be that, homes and affordable. I can remember back to the beginning of the 80s where you could buy a 3 bed semi for about 50k down in the Home Counties and with a 25 year mortgage a typical 20 something couple could buy a house and own it whilst they were still young enough to enjoy it. …anyway … sorry do t want to harp on about politics here… you, Mr M, Zeph and Alice Grace are much more important … and I must say Vanessa, I do love your boat and how you keep her so nice xx
