  2. Because the failure was progressive, surely they should have noticed the signs and then ascended….? Surely would there have been a lot of noises before failure, creaking, water ingress… if any of those things happened then they might have survived if they had aborted and started to ascend.

  3.  @Jg-be7it  I get that but before it suddenly implodes there must be signs of distress on the hull no material ever goes from normal to broke instantly surely there would have been a gradual weakening each time the vehicle submerged until it went bang the last time. But surely there must have been some slight visible signs on the surface ? There is an experiment on YouTube where some engineers test a similar constructed cylindrical carbon fibre construction pressurised using a hydraulic test chamber and before cylinder imploded, there were indications that the structure was failing before the final implosion which as you say, happened so fast that there is nothing you can do. What I’m saying is that there must be indications of the stress on the hull before implosion.
