This explains a lot. Where I used to work was a 3 storey brick built complex that had courtyards in the middle enclosed on all 4 sides with wings sticking out into the courtyard. On the walls, there were lots of ventilation holes in special bricks, each hole was about 1cm square and there must have been around 80 holes in each of these bricks all spaced by just over 1 cm. Now we used to get hundreds of bees which must have been Drones or male bees 🐝 and like the lady was saying, they would form in clusters near these bricks waiting for a queen to fly by. This event would happen each year so like the lady was saying it must be territorial and also we had a number of Hives within a few hundred metres from the complex so maybe that was what was happening. I didn’t understand until I saw this video. We would see massive clusters of bees that literally covered the windows near these ventilation bricks and usually at the top of the building maybe 50 foot up.
