  2. Weight management and weight control. This equipment weighs quite a bit. 1 gallon of water weighs 8lbs. It adds up quick. Not just consider the weight you're carrying, but the weight limit that your pack will handle. Test your equipment OFTEN. Does the pack fall apart at mile three or mile 12? Does the pack cause rubs or hot spots on your body? Can you pack you pack for proper weight distribution?
