  1. ​ @logueg  O.k., I just looked it up. The LEADERS were among the world's richest at THAT time...not the country, the LEADERS. And nothing was (substantiated) found to compare it to today's standard. Also the country has a large gold reserve, but it was an unearthed mass resource, does you little good until you extract it. And...THEY WERE rich, so evidently they foolishly squandered it away, so obviously not the smartest. Mali today has lots of gold and other resources that the Russian Wagner Group has been taking for years...but not a peep about them is said. Stay strong Africa, keep killing each other.
