Special Forces (and other agencies) were sent to Mexico to train Mexican Special Forces and Mexican State Drug Enforcement Agents. Late 80s early 90s. An ENTIRE unit of Mexican Special Forces deserted, took on contracts with the Cartel and provided security for the area and that route. Mexican Government loses a lot of security for es in that area ever since.
