  1. It's because they are literally the richest companies in the world, often with life changing compensation and benefits. And once you get a couple of years in a FANNG, you can probably just walk in to 70% of developer jobs without doing much in the interview process. It's incredibly attractive to a lot of people for those very reasons, and ye gods, don't the FANNG companies know it. It means they can be incredibly picky and create intentionally brutal recruitment processes. Part of it isn't just assessing your technical skills: It's literally seeing how much crap they can dump on you without you giving up or complaining. Your compliance is being measured as much as anything else in an interview, because that is a quality FANNG companies value as much as anything: How compliant you are and how well you'll put up with the god-awful crap they will inevitably throw at you.
