This why I always say a CS degree is better than a bootcamp: Change happens rapidly in tech, and sometimes the shift is massive. A CS degree (or a CS level degree education) allows you to pivot much more easily and ride the waves or change as you have the deeper understanding of what's happening.

@nikilk Right. We've had basic AI that can write HTML/CSS and even JS based on someone drawing a web page on a white board for over a decade now. It's only a matter of time before AI removes requirement interpretation as a role too.

@myusernamerocks3 Depends. Frontend dev and web frameworks? Sure. Lightweight cryptographic programming for an IoT device? You aren't learning that by yourself unless you are 150 IQ. Only way people can do that stuff is by getting a university level education and deep understanding of math and engineering.

@MattyPG Some CS foundations are pretty much the same though, but sadly what you describe is a timestamp of when academics last used a language for something useful. For example if they are teaching you Java 7 it means they haven't had to write any actual code in about a decade. Academics rarely self learn to a high standard when it comes to new languages/frameworks/versions. Their default is to stick with what they know. Even if that's 10-15 years out of date.
