I think the context is in relation to getting a job. Obviously there may be merits to a university education and a particular degree beyond being a pathway to having a good job.

Right but you can also get much better prepared for Marketing or business by doing a marketing degree or business degree. Sometimes people get jobs in spite of their degrees, not because of them. That happens too. Retconning say a Sociology degree to make it sound as if it was "critical" to landing a marketing internship or a bank clerk internship I do not get. Just call it what was: An interesting and maybe fun few years studying something that had almost no value after university.

@snufflebunns3901 Right but again horses for courses. If you want to do something Psychology based as a job, maybe don't pick like a Business degree. Or a Computer Science Degree. Or a Physics degree. If you are talking about having a versatile degree, I'm still not convinced stuff like Psychology or Sociology is as versatile as University marketing departments make it seem. Literally anyone I know in fields like finance or technology who had those degrees got in through other ways (short term internships, bootcamps/ re-training as of some kind). Their degree didn't help them land a gig in those sectors.
