  1. Worked in tech 17 years, and this is backed up repeatedly by annual StackOverflow surverys too: It's a small miniroity of devs working in tech today who are self taught. Self taught, for many of the reasons you pointed out and more, is often a path to nowhere. Sure, mayber 1 in 10 self taught people land a job, but the vast majority of people fail. That's not being gatekeepery, it's simply adding context so people can adjust their expectations and pick the best path. If you are a 1 in 10 typer person, you'll be fine with self taught. If not, you'll need to look at bootcamps or university/college programs.
