It depends really. An average, fully grown native UK tree will absorb about 6kg of carbon a year. A cyclist will produce about 21g of carbon per kilometre when you factor in "fuel" for the cyclist (i.e. food). So if a cyclist is doing over 286km on the bike per year, they are less environmental than a tree in the UK in terms of carbon offset.
