Paige Van Zant recently said she made far more money from appearing on a single season of "Dancing with the Stars" than she has in 4 years of being with the UFC. That says it all.

@too_sturdy First, $46k + $46k = $92k, not $86k. Second, other dude is correct, she's had 8 UFC fights and that's what we are talking about here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paige_VanZant#Mixed_martial_arts_record Her "bonuses" don't matter, the point is one season of a dancing show has made her a lot more money (her words) than 8 UFC fights, which include numerous "bonuses" and being a headliner. You can try and dress it up any way you want but that's pitiful.

@koshyjeffrey57 That's a weak argument for the UFC because boxers get paid far more than UFC fighters as per data from NSAC. You're really telling me UFC is far far bigger than boxing globally as a sport? It's not. They've hidden behind that for years "Oh we have a lot of staff bla bla..." So do large boxing promotional companies and network/streaming services that put boxing on. That doesn't stop boxers making bank though. You know why? Because for all boxing's many flaws, no one party has a monopoly. That's the real reason UFC pays so poorly Not because it is a "big organisation". Because it's a monopoly that has either bought out or outlasted the competition.

@270eman Dude in 2019 UFC only paid 16% of it's revenue to fighters. That again is a feeble argument: Covid has hit everyone, and the UFC has made literally billions it never shared with the fighters. It should and likey does have tremendous cash reserves . Additonally, it has continued to make revenues from it's UFC franchise gyms and things like UFC pass, which has shown old fights. And all this during a time when their costs are incredibly low, as they aren't putting on shows a lot of the time. The UFC pleading poverty argument is laughable. Once things go back to normal, they will continue to pay the fighters badly. There is simply no sane argument people have made to justify the UFC paying fighters so badly. It's just corporate shiling.

@mtw9592 Exactly. Like I said in another comment, boxing PPV year on year is roughly on a par with UFC PPV revenue over the last 10 years, yet we know on average boxers get paid a lot more than UFC fighters. The UFC effectively has a monopoly in MMA, it's realistically the only show in town (the other promotions are too small to make a dent in the UFC market share). Another fact people don't realise is that the UFC doesn't actually have a young fan base. A study from a few years ago showed the average UFC fan was aged 49 in 2016. In 2006 the average fan was 34 years old. So, the UFC has a rapidly ageing fan base which is not a great indicator for the business (it needs to grow a younger fan base). You add all that up, and this is about the UFC acting like a big corporation that wants to keep it's shareholders far happier than the people they employ and actually keep the company going.
