He meant I think that they weren't cinema as a form of art. Which a lot of the fan boys who got butt hurt by his comments and fired back totally missed. There were so many bloggers and articles where people were saying stupid stuff like "Well Marty, if MCU movies aren't cinema how come they made this much box office...." Dumb arguments like that simply made Scorsese's case for him. You had MCU fans who could not comprehend cinema as an art form and were simply trying to justify their love of the MCU because of how popular it was and how much money it made. I mean, the Twilight books were popular. That doesn't mean they are artistically good though, especially when compared to say Ulysses or War and Peace or Pride and Prejudice. Don't get me wrong. I like some of the MCU movies (some of them are mediocre though) and I think there was some strong writing, directing and performances in certain movies. But I also like eating a Big Mac and Fries sometimes. Doesn't mean I think it's a piece of culinary art like a set meal from Mirazur made by Mauro Colagreco himself would be.

@steverino6954 I think it seems to have been inferred more than implied, as a lot of people trying to push back against Scorsese didn't seem to get that. As I mentioned, they started trying to counter his arguments by saying "Look at how much money the MCU makes". That's obviously nothing to do with the artistic merit of something. I mean, its great that you got it, but an awful lot of people seemed to have totally missed the point. And I disagree about it being "pretentious posturing". Martin Scorsese has spend his adult life studying, creating and curating the art form of cinema. He's widely acknowledged by his peers to be one of the medium's greatest artists. "Pretentious" suggests someone affecting a greater importance than they possess. I think after 50+ years as a leading artist, he's earned the right to offer his considerable artistic opinion. That's not pretentious IMO. And his peers agree. "I appreciate his opinion" was what RDJ said in response to Scorese's comments. I appreciate you have a different take on this, like you said it's all subjective. I'm just offering my take in case anyone reads it. People will make their own minds up.

@harrisd1983 I'm exactly the same. MCU movies (and other comic movies) for me are like eating a Big Mac and Fries: I don't pretend it's something it's not, but it's still tasty and I enjoy it for what it is.
