His inflated record is nothing new. It's happened before in HW boxing.... Michael Grant, Charles Martin, Vaughan Bean, heck even Butterbean was 34-1 at one point lol!! What annoys me is when casuals, who have no clue about boxing, simply skim his Boxrec and erroneously conclude Wilder is "good" simply because he had a "0" beside his name. That's nothing to do with boxing proficiency and everything to do with great match making and protecting a fighter from any real threat. Wilder's record is more proof of his inability to fight rather than some indicator he was this great boxer.

And Ortiz almost had Wilder out in the 7th round first time out. Wilder fans, please look at this fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isa8MuHblhk At 38:00 you will see Wilder is almost out. He's 1 or 2 shots away from being laid out. The bell rings to end the 7th round. Then look at this blatant cheating at the 39:33 ! The ref, FOR NO REASON, stops the fight to buy Wilder extra recovery time. That's totally against protocol. The fighter should've been checked in between rounds. This gave Wilder extra recovery time when Ortiz almost had him out. Disgraceful, paper champion who only held on to his title by PBC having refs and judges in their pocket.

@WingBroJoseph Correct. Ortiz had some skills, and next to Wilder's other opponents (save Fury) Ortiz looked like Joe Frazier. But relatively speaking he only ever beat way over the hill guys himself (like Thompson). And Thompson was caught juicing which makes you wonder how legit he was in the first place. Ortiz had a lot of amateur fights but he was routinely beaten by Solis in Cuba. Ortiz, for this vaunted "amateur"brilliance", never actually did anything significant at international level. Ortiz only really got on the scene in Cuba between Solis' defection and the arrival of Savon. In those years, it's notable that Cuba did nothing in the 91kg and 91kg+ divisions when Ortiz was their champ. It was the weakest era they've ever had in those weight classes. And generally the 91kg class was incredibly weak from about 2006-2012, so it's not like winning a medal was going to be hard. Objectively, Wilder was a more successful I'm not saying Ortiz wasn't a better boxer than Wilder, but that's a low bar. What I'm saying is that Ortiz's amateur background and skills are overrated by some.

Fighters have to warm up before the fight though. It's normal for them to sweat before getting in to the ring. They jump rope, hit the pads etc... they have to warm up before the fight to get their muscles working. Hence the expression "to get caught cold" i.e. a boxer was not warmed up properly and gets knocked out early as their body wasn't ready for the fight.

Yeah that's not it dude. He was 231 vs Fury but has been at 229 against Eric Molina and won that fight. So it's not like he can't handle that poundage.

Maybe but he only has 4 months to get ready for the fight. And he's 35 this year and has by his own admission never learned to box properly. On one hand, I agree that he needs to ditch Jay Deas who seems to be completely clueless. On the other hand, what's a new trainer going to be able to do with him in 4 months? Probably not much useful. I think either way he loses to Fury again.
