Popularity contest? Science works by consensus in that experiments need to be repeatable so they can be tested by other scientists. It seems 97/100 of them are getting the same answer.

The pollution we make traps infrared light in the atmosphere, energy which heats of the atmosphere and traps more infrared light.

+Xpenguin17revived are you saying that you don't believe that science could be used to inform governmental policy?

+tTanmay Agrawal but gacliers aren't that dense. Glaciers are less dense than water. Water is 1000 kg/cubic meter, but glaciers top out at about 917 kg/cubic meter. So if you're trying to call him stupid by telling him he's "dense", you might be actually be saying he's pretty smart because ice isn't very dense. http://www.iceandclimate.nbi.ku.dk/research/flowofice/densification/

+Tanmay Agrawal Water is a great reference for a lot of things, and we use it as a basis for many measurements. For instance, a calorie is energy needed to raise the temp of water by 1 degree Celsius. Water is really prevalent and pretty consistent when at controlled temperatures, so it makes sense why some properties of water were used as a standard to define some measurements in the SI system, such as the Kelvin scale. In general, it's a reliable point of reference for many applications.

GoldenTV3 "The Industrial Revolution and it's consequences have been a disaster to the human race." What? Yes, the Industrial Revolution has extended life-expectancy of advanced countries (along with the medical revolution and the technology revolution). AND the citizens of advanced countries like U.S. spend untold amount of $$$ and time trying to help the development of 3rd world counties so that their living conditions and education improve as well. Society has never been extremely stable. Look at the warring czars, or the medieval times, or the greeks and their state battles, or the Persians, or the Egyptians and the multitude of ancient kings in the middle east, and the list goes on and on. The last 70 years have been some of the most peaceful times in human history. You speculate a lot.

edge21str I wouln't consider Venus a feasible option. You're even more susceptible to solar flares on Venus, and the only way to survive would be in the upper atmosphere on balloon-type citadels. Not fun.

You would die, too...
