I think about believing in a flat Earth as emerging from anti-globalism and a desire to return to a world view that pre-dates colonial imperialism (15th century or earlier)....the nationalism and xenophobia making our side (pun intended) all there is thereby psychologically negating the idea of globalism. I do not think of it in terms of a scientific theory that can be proved or disproved but as as a belief system that is held much like a religion and for similar purposes.
