  4. By the time of reconquista - which was well until the late 11th and early 12th century (4-500 years later), Europe had changed dramatically. The descendants of many of the Germanic tribes had taken up residence in England, France, Germany etc and had adopted Christianity. The Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne, the Crusades were all galvanizing forces that united western Christendom. Then you had the more belligerent popes like Urban II and Innocent III that fully endorsed armed pilgrimages.

  7. Depends on your interpretation of what a civilization is. The Iberian Peninsula was inhabited back to Paleolithic times
