  1. I have friends, family members and coworkers who have undergone gastric surgery in order to reduce their weight. It works briefly due to the surgical side effects and they lose weight. It’s rare that someone gets down to a healthy weight and stays there since they go back to their old eating habits and physical activity. They then have nutritional deficiencies and other health problems. I don’t see any difference in the new pharmaceutical products that produce results with many dealing with side effects but when they reach their target weight, they find that they can’t stop the meds. Additionally, every medication has a side effect, some aren’t realized until years later. Thalidomide was considered safe and caused horrific side effects for the babies of women who took it during pregnancy. We all have different metabolisms, body types and bone structure but eating yourself into a morbidly obese state is almost always due to personal choices. Bags of junk food, sedentary lifestyle and poor food choices will not make one healthy. I wouldn’t let my family eat in front of the TV as it becomes a habit even if one isn’t hungry. Popcorn night or a special treat on occasion is fine but I see people who have carts full of non nutritional items and very little healthy food and they have the body to show for it.
