  1. I understand both sides of the H1B Visas as one of my friends came over on one and has become a US citizen but was underpaid with no benefits until he was able to get out from under the employer. A large insurance company hired tech workers from another country and another friend had an apartment in the complex across the street. You could see large groups of workers walking to and from the business. I got to know some of the wives and they had young children, one was under 2 and he didn’t wear diapers in the house because they couldn’t afford them. Another had a newborn and 3 year old and were struggling to buy food and I drove them to the food bank. It was shameful what the insurance company was paying them, far less than Americans who received benefits that the H1B holders did not receive. I’m an RN and we had H1B workers who were only allowed to work for the company that brought them over, were paid less than Americans and their choice if they were unhappy is to continue to tolerate it or return to their country. They are basically indentured servants. Companies say they can’t find staff, but the real reason is that they don’t want to pay Americans or legal residents when they can find workers for less. Of course, they don’t cut costs to clients but the executives amass higher salaries and huge bonuses. My friend was in a field that he excelled in and was recognized as an expert and his work results revealed that. But hiring nurses, engineers, tech workers and others using the excuse that they can’t find workers is not true, they don’t want to pay the going rate and they also want to get rid of older workers who likely make more. Companies have chosen profit over productivity, experience and skills. Why pay someone with 20 years experience, has solid experience and knowledge when they can get someone for nearly half the cost?
