@williamlau2405 I bought an apartment with a fixed rate loan, so it had the effect to "freeze" my rent. That I own the apartment is just bonus for me!
If I did stay in the previous apartment, I would have paid 250€ extra per month, or 3000 per year. As I couldn't, I would have to move on a much smaller apartment since moving is not free either.
So, had no real choice there!
Now, we have a huge inflation of rent, but I still pay the very same amount. Comparatively, I am now paying my apartment for a cheap price as my salary also increased AND on the market, the amount I pay would be for an apartment of half the size.
I am also free to do whatever I want, I can renovate the shower, change the wall paint etc.
Huge costs will arise when I'll have to fix equipment, electricity or install new windows, but at that time, I will have enough money for that.
And when I will retire, I will enjoy zero rent! It also lower my taxes while I am paying back the bank. And when I'll be retired, it will not really impact the tax.
The worse being owning and working, but I should be able to avoid that.
