In my Taekwondo training, we also worked on inhibition. Because you get so much trained to do complex moves on a whim, that you may actually do some dangerous moves just because you thought about them. I had that exact problem with a best friend who did hit me a bit hard and my response has been to slam him on the floor and lock his arm. It's when he yelled out of pain that I realized what I did. Took a mere second to be in that situation and I wasn't even able to describe how we got from both standing to him on the floor with my knee in his back.
I remember that the very first pomsee was a pain to memorize and quite technical. By the third, I had the kinetic vocabulary, so it was much easier to learn and remember. Instead of thinking of individual moves, I was thinking in combination of them. Much, much lighter on the mind!
I did a technical competition with a guy who wasn't prepared at all. We were really pissed off, because when you start your routine, you assume everyone will do it well. So, it's very hard to pull back when you see the guy coming toward you instead of going in the same direction. You can be hit very hard! An yes, the guy didn't had a second chance. (And it was stupid for the organizer to bring that guy in our duo at the last minute)
