@ErchweanEmperor There are been a deflation in grades. So much that 100% is "good work" and not "exceptional". Today 80% is past 60% or something close to it. Kids of today are pushed far more to get better grades like 80% or 90%. Prior, 75% was a damn achievement. With 80%, it was excellence. 90% meant you had a gift. Close to 100% was worthy of the news and 100% DID the news. A lot of teachers even abstained to give full marks because "nobody is perfect". 100% meant "mastery". Now, kids get easy 80% (passive listening is enough for that!). Then they are told they are smart and can achieve great things. When they land on a job, the first instructions confuses the heck of them. They can barely do the job and need lot of guidance. That is far away from how they saw their self. It leads to abandon and nonchalance. And that's an implicit lie which is pervasive and pernicious. The worse kind of lie because it span across a long time frame. It's ingrained in mind. That's what make IQ a sensible subject because in that distorted world, everyone is apt at everything. A remedy is to go back in proper grading. 60% is great, it's what you need to achieve something reasonable in life. We have to stop making it more important that it is. People sucks in some area even if they work really hard. THAT'S FINE!!! I think that we are going toward a FAIL/PASS grading...That's saddening.
