  2. You don't want a third party, unless Republicans also have a major split. That's just a recipe for decades, or more, of Republican rule. Conservatives, in Canada, shouldn't win anywhere outside of 2 provinces. But, they do, with only 34-40% of the vote, due to Liberal and NDP (or BQ in Quebec) vote splitting. It would be even worse, in the US, because Republicans get 43-48% of the vote.
