  1. Testing rates are one of the most overlooked covid measures. Total tests and tests per million are irrelevant numbers that are completely disconnected from the covid numbers. The number you want to look at is tests per confirmed case. The US spent much of 2020 testing at a pathetically low rate of about 5 people per confirmed case. Canada fairly quickly got up to about 15 people per confirmed case. Australia fairly quickly got up to about 50 people per confirmed case. The US is only up to about 13 people. Canada is now about 25. Australia is up about 150. There's a strong correlation between testing rates and covid outcomes.
