@nathanconnors8427 "set as a republic and not a democracy" Those aren't mutually exclusive. It was set up as both. It's not a direct democracy, but it is, most definitely, a representative democracy, and always has been. A "republic" is basically any country that's not a monarchy. "Democracies" come in many forms, some more democratic than others, and pretty much all are representative democracies. The original Greek "democracy" only allowed land owning men to vote. It wasn't direct democracy for all.

@nathanconnors8427 Absolutely nothing about the word "republic" says you can't have a highly representative system, that better reflects the majority of voters.

@nathanconnors8427 Right wingers don't seem to know much about the electoral college, either. The electoral college didn't use to have such a drastic imbalance. That was caused by freezing the number of seats in the house, in the 30s I believe it was. It's not simply being an "electoral college" that causes an imbalance of votes. It would still be an "electoral college", if you assigned electorals proportionally to the population. Nothing about "electoral college" says it needs to be imbalanced. The only truly undemocratic, by its very nature, part of the US system, is the senate.

@XaiNYt I'll say what I want. And why the hell would you suggest typing more f*cking words? That's stupid.

You tell them that they don't know what either of those words mean. They aren't mutually exclusive.

@scottsbarbarossalogic3665 Yes, but that basically covers everything that's not officially a monarchy. There have been, and are some, non democratic single party countries, that are "republics", where the party considers itself, or passes itself of as, a people's party.
