@barbiquearea Would you rather live in the 100% privately owned and operated absolute monarchy, that is Saudi Arabia, 100% pure capitalism, or socialist Vietnam?

@barbiquearea That's like saying if I was good buds with Kim Jong Un, I'd get great treatment in North Korea, since that fund is used mainly for friends of the royal family. Assuming you're not best buds with the royal family, Saudi or Vietnam?

@barbiquearea South Korea isn't fully capitalist. They have socialized healthcare for those who can't afford it, publicly funded post secondary education, ... So why did you pick them as "true" capitalism?

@asamanthinketh1937 Why not pick one of the happier countries than Switzerland, like centrist Denmark? Top 10 happiness index ... Finland 7.80 Denmark 7.59 Iceland 7.53 Israel 7.47 Netherlands 7.40 Sweden 7.39 Norway 7.32 Switzerland 7.24 Luxembourg 7.23 New Zealand 7.12

@asamanthinketh1937 Lol, why isn't happiness the ultimate goal?

@asamanthinketh1937 "Social programs" = socialized sectors of the economy. Centrism = the center, between capitalism and socialism. Denmark has something like 30% of the population working the public sector, 70% unionization (not ownership, but far more of a say in what your labor is worth), universal healthcare, not just free post secondary but other expenses covered as well, etc., etc., etc. You'd take that over the lovely 100% privately owned and operated absolute monarchies we have remaining?
2
@asamanthinketh1937 Yeah, almost like shopping for healthcare and education isn't really an important factor.

@barbiquearea Every single absolute monarchy in history has been a 100% privately owned and operated nation, dumb dumb. More people have not died under communist regimes than capitalist ones. Plus, most of the deaths you're talking about were due to badly planned agricultural reforms. So, you need to count the 15m Indians starved to death under the British. And the 6m starving to death every single year under largely capitalist countries. In just 10 years, that's 60m.

@asamanthinketh1937 Crazy, and still have government subsidized day care, paid parental leave for both parents, a top 20 Gini score, almost like nothing US capitalists say is true.

@BadassRaiden But a society that doesn't treat a minority of the population horribly, would be overall more happy, no? If you asked 100 people if they were happy, 90 would be better than 75, and I'm sure feelings of equality would play into it. You're basically arguing it's impossible for the society to be happier, without having a minority of persecuted miserable people. That doesn't sound like trying to maximize happiness, at all. That sounds like giving up at a certain point.

@BadassRaiden I stopped reading, because you were incoherent by the end of the first paragraph. You literally said you could increase happiness by making things more equal. That means a country that did that, would have a higher happiness rating than one that didn't. If the goal is not just to make a majority of people happy, but to maximize happiness, then you should always be looking to make unhappy people happier. You can increase equality in bad ways, like making 99% of the population equally slaves. Some of the countries with the best Gini scores aren't many people's top choices of where they'd like to live. If the equality has improved lives and made people happy, is the important part.
