  1. But hardly anyone is going to be a bootstrap outlier. Even amongst those who try to pull themselves up by the bootstraps, the successful ones are a minority. 50% of small businesses fail within 5 years, 70% fail within 10 years, the vast majority of workers don't get that single promotion up for grabs, etc. Most people get stuck in the same economic class they were born into. The "American Dream" is dying, with the US being one of the worst developed countries for upward mobility. Letting the government get away with doing nothing to make conditions better for people, will just perpetuate the situation.
