Yang's foundation is flawed. A VAT is specifically designed to NOT tax businesses in order to avoid double taxation. It's a sales tax, collected in stages, with all the business stages getting to reclaim their input VAT. Since his dividend wouldn't actually have corporations paying into it, as the Alaskan dividend does, a corporation like Amazon would only get the benefits of the dividend being spent. Yang would make Amazon extra tens of billions a year, which would make Bezos extra billions a year. It is only progressive on the surface, but would increase inequality, increase money flowing to the top to be hoarded, increase money being invested into automation, etc. ... all at an even faster rate than is happening now. How a UBI is paid for matters. Also, LA has tested a public option, and that doesn't get you universal coverage anytime soon, if ever.

@neweraboss5728 There's a difference between a private option and a public option. A public option they don't have to opt into paying. A private option, you still pay into public universal healthcare for all, and still quality for it, but opt to buy some kind of additional or alternate private insurance.

@TheMoBrother You're nonsensical. A public option, literally, turns Medicare into a publicly owned insurance company that competes against private companies. A: You can't cover 3x the people, for the same public cost, simply by cutting paperwork. B: How does the government know what to pay the hospital, doctor, or whatever, or whether a procedure is covered or not, with zero administration? Are you just going to start blanket covering million dollar specialists?

@danielrivard2485 Not a fan of the democracy dollars idea. It somewhat assumes that all the regular people would go against the candidates backed by corporate interests. Reality is, 40% of the adult population would hand Trump $10b to campaign with. 50% of Democrats, supporting corporate shills, would hand those candidates their $100. They'd simply have their corporate donors, plus billions of extra dollars.
