Do progressives have the leverage? Pelosi could just let them paralyze the house, and then blame them for people not getting new covid relief, not getting a minimum wage increase, etc. Or, if Dore is right, that corporate Dems would rather work with Republicans than progressives, Pelosi could make a backroom deal with Republicans in exchange for enough of them to abstain, or be absent, lowering the threshold needed to win.

@comingviking My wild fantasies? Dore and Kulinski say corporate Dems are more willing to work with Republicans than progressives and Pelosi is the queen of backroom deals. You can't have it both ways. Uh yeah, while there is no speaker, nothing else can happen, dumbass. There's nobody to bring up bills to vote on, nobody to count the votes, etc. Nothing can happen until a speaker is elected.

@Jcewazhere It's almost 100 votes short of even passing the house. Yeah, there's no risk in those saying they're for it, voting for it, even if they're fakers. And there will already be a new list of people who don't sign onto M4A when the bill is reintroduced in the new session. Not sure what trying to ferret out a few fakers would even accomplish, when you already have almost 100 people that need replacing.

@aretwodeetoo1181 It's already known that almost 100 need replacing. If Dore has 100 new pro-M4A candidates in his back pocket, he should have pulled them out for the elections that just happened. I'm sure AOC would have used her platform and PAC to help get them elected, as she just did with other pro-M4A candidates. You don't have to force a vote to get someone on record saying they're opposed to M4A. It took a single reporter's question to get Biden to say he'd veto M4A.

@weneedcriticalthinking Yes, just backing Bernie (M4A) and helping to add more M4A yes votes to congress, going against the DCCC ... total betrayal. Meanwhile, the champion of M4A was backing Tulsi (public option), but then ran attack ads against Biden (public option + Medicare age decrease) which could only benefit Trump (complete ACA repeal). You Dore knobs are backwards as fuck.

"Forcing the vote" doesn't actually guarantee you a vote. Pelosi, and corporate Dems, could let progressives go ahead and paralyze the house and then blame progressives for no new covid relief, no minimum wage increase, no Medicare age decrease, and whatever else that would make progressives look bad in the eyes of the people. Or, if Dore is right, in that corporate Dems would rather work with Republicans than progressives, that actually goes against his plan, because it reduces the leverage. Pelosi, and corporate Dems, could make a quiet deal with Republicans, in exchange for enough of them abstaining or being absent, to reduce the threshold needed to win, simply dodging the progressive threat and pushing corporate Dems and Republicans closer together.
