@1robotchamp You're still thinking winner take all. Trump would have won some 30% of the California popular vote, instead of 0% of California electoral votes. Same for every state. Every single vote, everywhere, would count. You couldn't just ignore tons of states. It's the electoral college that allows for politicians to largely ignore all but swing states, and a handful of swing states get to decide the election.

Not sure he had to con conservatives, too much. Leading industrialists were his backers, and the ones who got him made chancellor, to begin with. He had already promised them there wouldn't be any serious attempt to redistribute wealth, and took out any prominent left leaning members of his party on the Night of Long Knives, after some of them had dropped their support. They then returned, after that night. Many of them were as horrible as he was.
