Nixon then won that Southern rcst majority over to the Republican party, in 1972. If you think the most rcst colonies/states, for centuries, up and magically became the least rcst states, you're about as sharp as a spoon. They simply started backing a different party. The party switch was real. It's well documented. CW Union states are now blue. Confederate and Jm Crw states are now red.
