  1. The problem with BGJ's argument, is that nothing is more incremental than going third party. To ever reach a point where they could actually pass legislation, they would need every Dem vote. That could literally take centuries.

  2. Rofl! The most popular third party hasn't won a single seat in congress in its 50 year existence. Green hasn't won a single seat in congress in its 20 year existence. Even if the entire progressive caucus was third party, that would hand Republicans the house, senate, and presidency. It could take centuries, for a third party to get the numbers to actually pass anything. There's nothing more incremental than voting third party. On the flip side, the 30 year old progressive caucus is about 15 seats away from becoming the majority of house Dems, when they'd have the ability to set the party agenda, and pick the party speaker. The 6 year old Justice Dems have 11 seats. Whatever you think of those progressives, it clearly shows that the method, of running within the party, is the faster way to take them out. That's because, if a progressive can make it through a primary, then they get the benefit of vote blue no matter who, when it comes to defeating the Republican, in the general.

  3. Splitting the vote too much could lead to the greater "evil" ruling for decades, if not centuries, to come. How is that good?

  4. ​ @julianbluefeather8491  But, it's not smart. It comes down to math. If you take 5% of the vote (Nader got 4%), mostly from Dems, then Republicans will win. And, they'd keep winning, for the foreseeable future, with any higher percentage. Even if the entire progressive caucus was third party, that would hand the house, senate, and presidency, to Republicans. You would never get a chance to pass anything, until you got all of the Dem votes, anyway, so why not just leave the Dem votes where they are, and try and change the party?

  5. ​ @ironiclargesse2162  Everyone in a primary is blue, so that doesn't split the vote. But, convincing enough people to not vote blue, to make Biden worry, and then trying to convince those people to turn around and vote blue, would be tough. West can't guarantee what his followers would do, so doesn't really have much to leverage. Biden can't personally do anything, that can't be done through executive order, so doesn't have much to give. Splitting the vote is dumb.

  7. The electoral college isn't inherently unrepresentative. It's the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929, that froze the number of seats in the house, and in turn the number of electorals, that made the electoral college increasingly unrepresentative. It would be easier to repeal that act, and redo the house, assigning seats per capita, than to change the constitution. Changing the constitution needs 2/3rds of the house and congress. Changing apportionment, would only need a simple majority.
