@soulreaver8466 Weird that there are more psychopaths in states with less guntrol, which tend to have higher firearm mortality rates and higher homicide rates. Or, maybe gun control does help not put guns in the hands of as many psychopaths.

I like the insurance idea, and think it should be tied to registered changes in ownership. It would cut back on straw purchases, if the buyer was liable for the gun they're secretly handing off to someone who can't get their own gun. It should start at the point of production, with the producer liable until it is sold to a distributor, the distributor liable until it is sold to a customer, etc.

@soulreaver8466 What a load of nonsense. If a shiv is just as lethal as a gun, then that makes guns pointless. Use a shiv to fight off the government.

What does size of population matter, when using per capita statistics to compare different countries, or different states or provinces, to each other? The entire EU has a higher population than the US, is much more complex, and still has fewer gun crimes per capita.

If a knife or bat is just as lethal as a gun, then I guess you don't really need a gun, to fight criminals or for your fantasy fight against the government, or whatnot.

Out of the gate, owning more guns increases the odds of accidents, making them more dangerous than someone with no guns. A quarter of "illegal" guns are stolen, which means the ones with guns are increasing the odds of criminals having guns. Guns have an 80% suicide success rate, compared to under 1% for pills or cutting, increasing the odds of someone going through a bout of depression successfully killing themselves. And then there's the fact that the majority of people killing each other have relationships of some kind, and the guns they use are "legal" and more lethal than other weapons, increasing the odds of some dispute turning lethal.

It's not a Bible, dumb dumb. It can be amended, and amendments can be further amended. You obviously don't want an amendment free constitution, right?

So, if it wasn't so easy to get a gun in the US, there might be less US guns used in Canadian crimes?

@rubecube2745 Umm, like criminals in Canada, cartels in Mexico are getting their guns from the US. The US is the largest supplier of guns for criminals in North and Central America.

@rubecube2745 Because it's not "criminals" selling guns to other criminals. It's "legal" gun buyers. https://www.businessinsider.com/guns-sold-legally-in-us-used-in-crimes-in-mexico-2021-4

@rubecube2745 States with less gun control tend to have higher firearm mortality rates and higher homicide rates. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/homicide_mortality/homicide.htm

@xoxonaotchan_7902 Gun owners are the ones fighting against common sense the most. The US is the main supplier of guns to criminals across North and Central America, making gun owners defenders of a ton of mass murders, even if they're not committing them.

Both the US and Canada have a backyard problem in their histories. As do countries further South.

Pretty much every gun starts out legal. About a quarter of illegal guns are then stolen from legal owners. If the legal owner has to jump through more hoops, and there are fewer legal owners, then there'd be fewer guns to steal. About another quarter illegal guns are strawman purchases, where a legal buyer buys a gun and hands it off to someone who isn't supposed to have a gun. If the straw purchaser has to jump through hoops, then it makes it harder for the person they're buying for. Almost half of guns were legal right up until the point they were used to do something illegal. Most homicides are people who know each other. Alaska has the highest firearm mortality rate, and one of the highest homicide rates. It's not gangs, with illegal guns, shooting people. So, yeah, "legal" gun owners should jump through some hoops. Should have mental competence screening.
