  1. Makes no sense, that he can't simply mortgage properties, unless he already owns no equity in them.

  2.  @ShaneTheBane  He shouldn't have to sell any, if he actually owned even one billion in equity in the properties. He'd be able to take out a mortgage, or remortgage. That he can't, seems to indicate he doesn't actually own much equity, and isn't worth much, at all.
